CYG

RU looking for somewhere to go and something to do in and around Chailey? Well you've come to the right place!

About Us

Meet the Youth Workers...

Hello my name is Ken Furmedge. I was one of the last to do National Service...so that will give my age away! My career was in Telecomms with the old GPO which changed its name several time to eventually become BT. I had a break for a few years in the 60's when I worked in Kenya for the East African Posts and Telecomms. Took early retirement and then worked for an assistance company arranging garages to attend car breakdowns. Then I moved to Chailey about 9 years ago. I have several grandchildren, all who are involved in various activities, and without adult help these activities could not take place, so when I saw that Chailey was starting a Youth Club I thought perhaps I can give something to the local youth, as a payback to all those who give their time to help my grandchildren.

Hi I'm Mary Fitzsimons and I have been volunteering at Chailey Youth Group for almost a year now. I live in North Chailey and have 2 children aged 8 and 4. I do not work but I might argue that looking after the family is working!
I met Gemma at the nursery where both my children attended. She explained about the CYG and I thought it sounded like a great idea as whilst there are lots of benefits for children living in a village it can also be quite restrictive unless they have willing parents who are happy to act as a taxi!
If i’m honest I initially wanted to help out to ensure that the youth group remained open so that when the time came my children would have someone to go, but I now really enjoy volunteering and feel it’s very worthwhile for the community and i’m constantly amazed at how much the young people seem to get out of the group.
My interests mainly revolve around family life and my beagle puppy who keeps me very busy!

I'm Gemma Kybert. I thought you might like to know a little bit about all of the staff who help run Chailey Youth Group. We all work voluntarily which means we do everything unpaid, mainly because we want to offer the young people of Chailey somewhere to go and something to do! I am a teacher in the local nursery school. I visit Zambia in Africa each year to work with orphans and vulnerable children who do not have any family. I also visit people who live right out in the bush and spend time with some of the street children - who literally live on the streets! I have a real passion for helping people and want to help as many people as I can in the world through out my lifetime. I am currently working full time and am at university. I really enjoy riding, shopping and adore my family! I really hope you enjoy Chailey Youth Group and come show us your ideas and your support.

Hello, I am Tracey Gunes. I love volunteering at CYG because its important for youth to have somewhere to go and meet... there is too much bad press for young people nowa days that i think what you all do and can achieve should be celebrated.
I like that activities/ outings and themed events CYG offers because the ideas come from the young people... we try and offer you what you want!
I am a mother of three and foster mother of many more. I am adopting to young children which is very exciting. I am a childminder and love children... I have a teenage son, Ali who also come to CYG. I love shopping and spending money but mainly being around my family.
