CYG UNDER THREAT-
Recently there have been a few things raised that has left the future of CYG in the hands of the young people, the community and the immediate future.
It has been clear by numbers of young people attending this passed few months that CYG has not been a necessity for as many young people. We have had lesser and lesser young people attending which has made operating with a good atmosphere and purpose very difficult. CYG opened in march 2007 and has gone from strength to strength, wining local and national awards. It has helped to reduce petit/small crime in the village and given young people a voice, place and a purpose.
AS with every charity, group and sector there is a period of change where aspects change slightly as they move forward- we are open to this change and are willing to take necessary steps to move with this. We need to-
*build our committee to ensure we are meeting young people's needs
*build our membership back up to 30+ members
*target other areas within Chailey and surrounding areas to offer more young people the opportunity to come
*Encourage young people to bring their friends, new people and fresh faces to CYG
*develop and consistently run a youth panel that will drive CYG into the next decade
in order to do all of this we need support, commitment, fresh ideas and enthusiasm.
Do you have any ideas, fresh thoughts, young people to attend?
If you do please do get in contact.

TRIP TO THORPE PARK IN SEPTEMBER 2010
Some lucky Chailey Youth Group members were chosen to go to Thorpe Park, Surrey yesterday (14.8.10) to plan and risk assess a whole group trip planned for early September. The young people embraced the opportunity and were very keen to attempt every ride possible.
The day was a great team building opportunity, allowing them to see a snap shot of how much time and effort has to go into planning a youth group outing.
The young people are currently compiling all of their research to submit at our next young people's committee meeting planned for Sunday 22nd August, Mill brooks Park, South Chailey @ 6pm.

CHAILEY YOUTH GROUP MEMBERS SAY A MASSIVE THANK YOU!
Members of CYG were presented with a cheque for £240 from the Thomas Thompsett Trust based in Chailey earlier this week. Members of the group arranged to all sign a thank you card to show their appreciation to the charity for their support.
The chairperson, Gemma Kybert, 27, Said "We are so unbelieveably grateful for the support. We simply could not run the group if we didnt recieve funding as this is our only source of income." The group plan to look at ways that they can be sustainable in the future as there have been so many cuts to the youth sector that funding is simply running out or not available.

EAST SUSSEX YOUTH GROUP COMES SECOND IN CHILDREN’S STARS AWARD
Chailey Youth Group came second for the Make Space Youth Team of the Year Award in the Children’s Stars Awards 2009. The national awards scheme, run by children’s charity 4Children and supported by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) and the Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC), takes place annually in honour of the unsung heroes who work day in, day out to improve the lives of children and young people. Inspirational children’s professionals received their awards at a glamorous gala dinner and award ceremony in central London on Thursday 25 June, hosted by TV and Radio star, Neil Fox and attended by a wealth of VIPs.
The dynamic Chailey Youth Group came second for the Make Space Youth Team of the Year Award for developing much needed youth services for young people in East Sussex. Answering the call to the long awaited youth provision in the area, the team established the Chailey Youth Group and developed key projects in partnership with the local council and volunteers. Run by full time volunteers the team now supports a membership of over thirty young people and provide critical youth support in the village.
Anne Longfield OBE, Chief Executive of 4Children, said: “No job is more important than caring for and inspiring our children and young people. The Chailey Youth Group team and the rest of the winners have achieved something truly remarkable and deserve to be recognised and celebrated.”
TV and Radio star, Neil Fox said: “The Children’s Stars Awards are a great opportunity to say a big thank you to all those who look after our children and bring fun inspiration into their lives. Well done to the Chailey Youth Group and all the winners whose passion and commitment has opened new opportunities and made a real difference to children’s lives.”
TV personality Anne Diamond said: “As a mother I know how important it is that children are trusted and cared for by exceptional people to help them reach their potential. The Children’s Stars Awards are a great opportunity to say a huge thank you to the inspirational winners and also the large number of dedicated people working in the sector who also deserve recognition for the vital work they do with children and families.”
Minister of State for Children, Young People and Families Rt Hon Dawn Primarolo MP said: “The DCSF is delighted to recognise and honour the vital services and work of the Chailey Youth Group with children and families. It is exceptional groups like the Chailey Youth Group who not only transforms the lives and futures of children and their families but inspire everyone to put children in their rightful place - at the heart of our communities. Congratulations to the Chailey Youth Group”
Jane Haywood, Children’s Workforce Development Council (CWDC), Chief Executive, said: “The Children’s Stars Awards are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the inspirational people who go above and beyond their duties to help children reach their potential. The CWDC is delighted to support these awards and honour the achievements of the Chailey Youth Group and all the professionals who work tirelessly to improve the lives of children and families for us all.”
Gemma Kybert, Volunteer youth worker (CYG) said: "It really is an amazing experience to have nominated for such a prestigious award. At Chailey Youth Group we hope to deliver experiences that meet the young people’s needs and inspire them to have respect for themselves as well as for the community. Growing up in a rural village means we have less access to facilities but CYG tries to bridge that gap and plan opportunities that the young people would not normally have access to. We are very honoured to be here, on behalf of all of the young people of Chailey."
Ken Furmedge, Chairman (CYG) said: "There are many people to thank and who helped us get this award.
Gemma, without her drive and dedication there would never have been a CYG. The volunteers without who it could not run.
The people and organisations who have supported and encouraged us, too numerous to mention except for the person who entered us for this award Meg Stroude our County Councillor, Sharon Davey MP, Laura Williams from ESCVYS, Paul Alborough and Ruth Tahsin form Lewes District council.
And finally you, the members, without you there would not be CYG. It just shows what can be achieved when you are part of a team.
All you young people of CYG Be proud...Walk tall."
