SPORTS UNLIMITED APPLICATION
Chailey Youth Group is currently putting together an application for Sports Unlimited which is trying to target the ‘semi sporty’ types of young people. The programme will try to bring about a behavioural change for young people by encouraging them to participate regularly in out of school and community sport activities.
For the purposes of this programme includes opportunities that are attractive to young people. These include dance, aerobics, climbing and skateboarding, horse riding etc etc. It does not include activities such as walking or cycling to school.
In Summary, Sport Unlimited aims to:
Bring together school and community sportEngage the 50% of children and young people classed as ‘semi sporty’ types to achieve the 5 hour offerIncrease young people directed to clubs, reducing post 16 drop-offDevelop traditional clubs and new types of clubs to attract a wider range of young peopleImprove access and opportunity for these young people to take partRun introductory sessions for alternative activities
This will hopefully be in addition to our new project called fun, fit and fabulous. This project will be an aerobic type dance workout run by a local martialarts and dance trainned coach to encourage girls between 10-17 years to get fit and have fun. We hope to indirectly work the girls to improve self confidence, esteem and self worth, team building opportunites to prove that exercise can be fun and fabulous!CYG would like to develop projects that will encourage social inclusion projects, health, sport and exercise initiatives alongside Lewes FC. We would like to offer our members the opportunity to gain qualifications such as the v50 award through V-INVLOVED, Sports leadership awards and the keystone award. We are also looking into possibilities of offering the Duke of Edinburgh Award.CYG has worked very hard to ensure that the young people within the community feel valued and are supported. CYG has been very well received offering membership to 30 members. We are always seeking ways of evaluating activities to ensure they are meeting the young people needs (these are ever changing in line with current trends, fashion and opportunities).
